The good, the bad and the ugly…{part 3, I think!}

The Good:

  • It’s Friday.  And it’s Friday before spring break, meaning I am off until March 29.  This break is much needed, I assure you.
  • Tomorrow, I’m headed to San Francisco to see some of my favorite blog friends, and to meet a few more of the ladies I adore online!  I can’t wait to meet them in person and hug them and drink mimosas.
  • Last night, I was SHOCKED to come home to a Wii, Wii Fit Plus and some workout stuff from Brand About Town!  I CANNOT WAIT to get started working out at home and I am so excited to play with my new toys!  I know that having workout equiptment at home will make losing weight even more fun.

The Bad:

  • I looked through the Anthropologie catalogue yesterday and got a major case of the sads.  I am too poor and too not-skinny to rock the stuff in there.  Le sigh.  I just want to be rich.  And thin.  But mostly rich.
  • I am so wiped out from this quarter.  Seriously.  I finished grades and another major project on Wednesday, and I’ve yet to really unwind from it.  Am I the only person who feels residual stress when something is done?

The Ugly:

  • Most of you who follow me on Twitter already saw that I received a pink slip today.  For those that aren’t teachers, a pink slip is a legal notification teachers are given if there’s a chance they won’t have a job next year due to finances.  I was given one last year, and it all panned out; however, this year, things are pretty dire and no one knows what to expect.  I still have a lot of hope, but I won’t know anything until May 15th.  Cue the two month stomach ache!

In all seriousness, I so appreciate the outpouring of love via Twitter and email.  That sort of love reminds me of just how awesome this community is…even on really crappy days, y’all can make me smile and feel so loved.

I’m glad you clarified that pink slip thing for me. I always thought that meant you automatically were losing your job. So glad that’s not it!

I’m SO sorry about your job! Hopefully things will work out. And I got a Wii and Wii Fit yesterday also!!! SO EXCITING! I also got rock climbing lessons with mine! :)

[Reply]

Have a great spring break! :) I love exercising with Wii Fit especially if playing in a competitive mode with the husband…it actually makes it more fun than doing it by yourself.

I’m sorry to hear you got a pink slip – sending you good vibes your way for May 15th! It’ll be May before we know it – time is flying by fast this year!

So sorry to hear about the pink slip, I thought it meant you automatically lose your job so it’s good to hear there’s still a chance you won’t. But giving you that pink slip and then making you wait for two months sounds just plain cruel!

Yay for spring break! I hope you have a fabulous and relaxing couple of weeks off!

My neighbor/good friend got her pink slip for a school system here in Illinois. Her school already started reassuring some teachers that they would be fine next year. She wasn’t one of them. She’s heartbroken she’s going to have to go through a job search one year after completing one. Situations like yours and hers leaves a distaste in my mouth for tenure … just because you’ve worked for 20 years doesn’t make you a better teacher. Sigh. I hope things work in your favor.

I hate pink slips. In Illinois, a pink slip is a termination notice. You do not have a job next year. You can still get called back, but you are terminated. It’s been really ugly around here. It’s so awful to see good teachers let go, and bad teachers taking their spots.

I will cross my fingers that everything works out for you!

[Reply]

Wow, you haveto wait 2 whole months to find out? That just seems cruel! I’ll be praying for you and that you still have your job. It really irks me how much we are cutting funding for teachers and the education system. If there’s anything that should never see a budget cut, it’s education!

[Reply]

Hey! You wanna swing by and pick me up on your way to SF tomorrow?!

Just kidding.

Not really.

Sort of.

[Reply]

Making you wait two months is a cruel thing to do! Keeping my fingers crossed for you though.

[Reply]

have a blast in SF and drown your pink-slip concerns in mimosas!

(also, I was watching the new Lady Gaga video today and I totally got a case of the sads. Not that I want to dance around a prison in a bikini, but DAMN, that girl is tiny!)

Wii and Wii Fit = awesome. Have so much fun with it! I love using it to track my weight. Even when I don’t use it to work out I use it to weigh myself so it can mock me if I gain and congratulate me when I lose!

Nothing like a pink slip to associate something so terrible with such a delightful color. But you have been through it before and you are strong enough to make it through this time. And if the worse happens (which I hope doesn’t), perhaps you will get a better paying job in a closer neighborhood with even more fabulous teacher friends. Be positive chica. And when you don’t want to be, have a drink or go for a run ;)

I have been wanting a Wii for so long, especially the Fit! I’m super jealous but can’t wait to hear about how much fun you have with it!

I’m sincerely sorry about the pink slip, and will keep you in my thoughts! Keep your chin up and stay strong, and know we are all here to support you no matter what!

[Reply]

Amy — VERY sorry to hear about the pink slip situation! That sucks. I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you.

[Reply]

i’ll be keeping my fingers crossed for you in the job world!

[Reply]

My fingers, and toes, and eyes and anything else that has that ability, are crossed. What I think is even harder is continuing to do your job in a productive manner while waiting to find out if you are back for next year. It is hard to face those kids every day when so much in unknown. I wish you so so much luck because I think you really truly love what you are doing and you deserve to be there.

[Reply]

have a great time in san fransisco and yay for a wii fit, i love mine,it’s all sorts of awesome.

and boo on pink slips, my mom works in the school system has had her fair share of those scary pieces of paper and i hope your news turns out for the best in may.

[Reply]

Ugh… 2 months to find out? That would kill me! Amy, my heart goes out to ya…

[Reply]

I’m with Kathleen, I thought the pink slip meant you were laid off. I am glad you weren’t. That means there is still a chance you won’t. But having to wait two months for the decision? That is kind of cruel.
Enjoy your weekend in Sam Francisco!

[Reply]

That blows. Really, I can’t imagine the stress this causes, especially the UNDUE stress if it works out! I mean, exactly HOW is this information helpful? My mom was a teacher in California, like a million years ago, and the same thing would happen to her.

SUCKTASTIC.

Am so jealous that you are so close to SF and it’s bevy of awesome bloggers but also the FOOD, OH MAH GAH THE FOOD.

[Reply]

Oh no. A grammatical error in my comment. Really, I know the difference between IT’S and ITS.

I swear.

[Reply]

I will be thinking positive vibes and sending prayers for you about your job until May 15th! You sound like the teacher I wish I’d had when I was in grade 8, you deserve your job.

Have fun with the girls in San Fran! I wish I was within driving distance.

[Reply]

YAY 10 hours! I’m going to hug you extra hard because your job situation sucks!

[Reply]

I’m sorry about the pink slip, Amy. Was stunned when I read that *hugs*. But it’s not definite right and they keep you when you got one last year, so you must mean something to the school. I hope it’s all going to be okay.

Have fun on your spring break, a blogger meet up involving mimosas sound heavenly.

[Reply]

Anthropologie depresses me, too. Woe.

Fingers crossed come May.

[Reply]

I hope nothing comes of the pink slip :(

[Reply]

Yay spring break! And lucky you that you’re going to San Fran, I’m jealous!

Sorry to hear about the pink slip, hope it works out!

[Reply]

Aw man….I don’t comment often, but geez, I’m really sorry to hear about the pink slip. One of my best friends just got one, too…..not fun. I’ll be sending positive thoughts your way! In the meantime, have fun!

[Reply]

The pink slip system is terrible. Poor you. I hope it works out. Kids need great teachers, it sucks that they don’t always get to keep them. I wonder if the Wii fit will help with stress relief? My parents got a Wii resort package at Christmas- the image of my 63 year old mother canoeing in our living room cracks me up every time!! I’m jealous not to have one. Enjoy your Spring Break!

[Reply]

I hear you about the love and hate for Anthro. I am right there with you. I’m really sorry to hear about the pink slip, but I’m glad you got out of town this weekend to see some awesome bloggers. Jealous!

[Reply]

Ohhh, honey. Just seeing this. I will keep all fingers and toes crossed for you from now until May 15!!! Yes, that means I will get no work done and won’t be able to walk. All for you, my friend. All for you!!

:)

[Reply]

Ugh, there’s no good way to get laid off. I had no notice, no clue, no nothing. And it stung. I can’t imagine having to wait 2 months either! Wishing good things for you.

[Reply]

I hope things with the job turn out well. Hopefully you’ll get called back like you were this year.

[Reply]

I found you through Erin’s blog over at The State That I Am In. I am a special ed. teacher in Ohio. I am so sorry to hear about your pink slip. :( That is a blow I’ve managed to dodge thus far, but my first year of teaching they laid off 319 teachers. And we had to find out about it on the morning news. What a mess. Good luck with it. Fingers crossed that you get to keep your job!

[Reply]

Oh, Amy.
I somehow missed this tweet and post!
I will say prayers for you that all things pan out and that you won’t lose your job. I just hate that there are budget cuts all over the US both for the teachers who should be in a classroom and for the students who are missing out on awesome experiences with you fabulous teachers.

Prayers & good thoughts coming your way!
