Saboteurs!

So, normally I save this stuff for my weight loss blog, but I just have to talk about the gym for a minute.  It pains me to say this, but I think I am slowly turning into a gym person.  I KNOW.  No one is more surprised by this than I am.  Here’s what tipped me off: I forgot to set my alarm on Tuesday morning but at 4:35 my eyes snapped open and off I went to the gym, happy as a clam.

Something is wrong with me.

Still, not everyone is supportive of me being up in the gym working on my fitness—in fact, there are like, 30 people who are completely trying to deter me.

Who are these awful people?

The attendees of the 5 AM spin class.

I LOVE spin class.  I love the music and the fact that it’s like riding a bike, sans scary things like people riding close to me and curbs.  I love the way my glutes burn and my fancy shoes that lock in to the pedals.  I love the hills and the fact that it’s basically the ONLY hour of cardio I can do without wishing I was dead.

The problem is that apparently, other people feel that way too.  I showed up at 4:45 AM on Monday morning sure that no one would be as INSANE as me, and I’d have no problem getting into a 5-freaking-AM spin class on a Monday morning.  I approached the desk at my gym and requested to be added to the list, and was told, “The class is full.”

WHAAAA?

So, yesterday morning, I woke up at 4:20 and arrived at the gym just after 4:30.  Again, I approached the desk and was DENIED.  Seriously?  30 people are 30 minutes early for a spin class?  At 5 AM?  Back when I was thin and hot and spinning my rear end off on the regular, I had NO PROBLEM rolling in 10 minutes before a class.  Apparently, the times have changed.

If I don’t get a handle on this, I will completely blame these 30 crazy early birds for the fact that I’m not a toned goddess.

On Friday morning, I plan on arriving at 4:00 am and napping on a bike until the class starts.  Okay, so, I’m kidding.  But I will be paying the nominal fee to reserve my bike, something I didn’t know I could do until uhhh, this morning.

VICTORY WILL BE MINE.

hey, is there no way you can book on the night before? or call the gym before you leave home to book on? My gym has a booking policy for spin class that opens 3hrs before it starts… maybe they do the same?

There is NOTHING worse than getting to the gym early, feeling awesome, and then having to either wait around for a machine or get turned away. I totally feel your rage.

While you’re napping in the parking lot, break their kneecaps and you won’t have to wait for a bike again.

Done like dinner!

I read a lot of health blogs and have heard this story all over the internet! It just boggles my mind that so many people are so devoted to spinning, but it’s pretty cool at the same time. I hope you get in tomorrow!

Holy crap. You get to the gym AT 4:20 A.M.????? Wow… I respected you before and all, but now…man oh day, I’m in AWE of you.

[Reply]

Wow. I am shocked. The husband and I keep talking about getting up early to go to they gym, but it hasn’t gone past talking yet.

4.20? Hmmm what exactly does that look like? In my old job, I discounted going to the gym at 6.30am because I deemed it to be too early. I’m a little embarrassed by my 10am gym start time. I feel quite proud when I make it there.

that’s insanity. and here i am thinking “if i can just make it to the 8am class… just once…”
but man, 5am is way too early for me. and i assume it’s that packed because it’s still early in the year… people haven’t bailed on their resolution yet : )

[Reply]

Nooooo.

Really?

This is insane.

“I forgot to set my alarm on Tuesday morning but at 4:35 my eyes snapped open and off I went to the gym, happy as a clam.”

lol when I read that I thought something IS wrong with you!! I WISH I could get myself out of bed to workout that early. But I can’t even do it to get up for work! That’s crazy how many people are willing to be uber-early like that too.

[Reply]

See, I like to whine and complain about my alarm going off at 4:30am but GETTING TO THE GYM AT 4:20? You are dedicated!

I’m actually going to a spin class tonight on a guest pass, so I’m hoping a bike will be available! I’m a little doubtful now, especially since the class is at 6pm! Prime workout time.

I miss Spin class! Like you, that was the only hour of cardio I ever seemed to enjoy. And it was intense! Makes no sense.

I blame the full classes on the fact that it’s still only February. Give it a few more weeks till people start giving up on their resolutions. Then you’ll be able to grab a bike 10 minutes till, no problem. :)

[Reply]

like I told you, you are hardcore and deserve massive amounts of praise and worship for getting to the gym at that time of the day to do anything.

for me, spin class is the ONLY hour of cardio that makes me wish I was dead.

[Reply]

What’s your secret!?!?! I’d LOVE to get out of bed at 4:30AM happy as a clam! I’m jealous!

[Reply]

I had to accept that while I’m slowly becoming a gym person myself, I’m not an early-morning gym person. I got at night, after work and sometimes even after dinner, and it helps me release the stress and crap from the day. It also lets me watch prime-time TV while working out. I like that.

I was about to have a shit that people in large numbers were getting to your gym at 4:30AM for a spin class that doesn’t start until 5:00. But, paying to reserve your seat? Yeah, that makes sense. All those shitheads are at home asleep still. =)

[Reply]

Waking up that early sounds God awful!!! They need to get with the program and add more bikes if they have that many people going THAT EARLY! Fo realz.

[Reply]

Whatever happens, I still vote you Champion of the Universe for your energy.

reading this post made me tired
4am is for sleeping

[Reply]

Are you able to sign-up the night before? That’s the way it was at my old gym so I would just sign up for a bike the night/day before! Haha

[Reply]

i’m starting to love the gym too… especially if I get my favorite machines…that’s right I have favorite machines! LOL

[Reply]

That is insane. There must be some secret system that you are not clued in to.

[Reply]

whaaaaaat?!?! not only can I not believe you are crazy enough to be at the gym at 4:30am, but the fact that there are 29 others like you boggles my mind! i admire you getting going so early. my alarm goes off at 6:00 for my run and that’s brutal enough.

[Reply]

I roll out of bed at 7 am every day, but that means I’m heading to the gym at 6:30 pm with all the non-early birds and I don’t get home until almost 8. Waaah Waaah. I’m trying my first spin class this week. Can’t wait. But um…do you need fancy shoes that clip in? Because I don’t have those.

[Reply]

Oh my goodness I’m so impressed. I really find it hard to wake up in the morning, MONDAY nonetheless. I usually just start sleeping at 3 am haha but those 30 peeps need to be kicked somehow so you can get your bike! :p
