My best night out this year was a random date night as well. And you're right, when you live with someone, it's easy to take them for granted. It seems, at least in my experience, that the more you plan and the more you expect from a "date", it tends to let you down a bit. But those spontaneous dates that pop up here and there are so wonderful! It's so nice to relax and have a couple hours to just enjoy the food and each other (especially when steak is involved! YEAH!). We have McCormick & Schmick's up here, too, and I LOVE it. Do they have an awesome happy hour down there, too? Soooo tasty. I love those unexpected nights out.
