AAHHHH!

Okay, so truth be told, this might only be cool if you live in Sacramento, or if you really enjoy stories about awesome things that happen to me.

About three years ago, a friend of mine and I were in the car, when he suggested that we listen to a radio show.   I’ll be honest: I think most morning radio is terrible.  Unless it’s NPR, I tend to not really listen.  That was until I started listening to Rob, Arnie and Dawn (if you’re curious about what I’m writing about, and you’re not a Sacramentan, you can totally listen online, by the way!).  Everyday, I would listen and laugh hysterically.  Sure, most morning shows have their own little gags and funny moments, but this show was different.  They are DEFINITELY edgy and offensive at times, but as someone who gets annoyed with the typical “wacky DJ shows” they were a breath of fresh air.  I started to, lame as it sounds, CARE about the people on the show.  To have a genuine interest in what was happening in their lives and on the show.  Rob, the leader of the show, is an inspiration of sorts because he is wildly successful and I love to listen to his opinions on politics and life—they always make sense and I’ve learned a lot.  Arnie is the funny one, and typically, I disagree with 99.99% of what comes out of his mouth, but he does crack me up.  Still, my favorite person on the show remained Dawn.  Sure, she seems a bit crazy, but her compassion and kindness always impresses me.  I find myself usually relating to her point of view and just liking her best.

My interest in the show grew and like I said, I’ve been listening almost daily for three years.  Before Andrew and I moved in together, I used to download episodes and listen while falling asleep.  I listen every morning during my commute and even once I get to work.  It’s really become a part of my life; one that might seem trivial to others, but it means a lot to me—on my bad days, the show has made me laugh and I look forward to my daily fix.

Anyways, I have joked before that I would absolutely LOVE to meet Dawn.  She lives in the same town as me, and many listeners had reported seeing her around town, and said that she was super friendly.

And tonight?  It was my turn:

(Please ignore the fact that this is the most HIDEOUS photo of me, ever and that I appear to be wearing no makeup. I totally don’t care—it was an awesome experience!)

Andrew and I stopped at Target, and were browsing when I saw a familiar face: her husband, Gary, whose photo I’d seen on the site.  Just behind him was Dawn.  As soon as I saw her, I said, “OH MY GOSH!  You’re DAWN!”  She gave me a huge hug and started chatting with Andrew and me.  Both she and Gary were so sweet, talking with us about my teaching job, our upcoming trip to Illinois, delicious food and the holidays and a variety of other topics that I TOTALLY CAN’T REMEMBER, because I was absolutely star-struck.

Anyways, it literally made my day (okay, my life!) because I just adore her.  You can bet I’m sending her a link to this blog, so Dawn, if you’re reading, THANK YOU for absolutely making my night.  You are just as sweet as you seem, and I was so touched by your kindness!

Seriously, this Christmas season keeps getting better and better.

I love Rob, Arnie and Dawn! I listen to it at least as much as you do and they are a huge part of my life as well. My order of loving the members is very different from yours (ie: Dawn is dead last, behind the production team even) but she still has a special place in my heart. I’M JEALOUS!

Oh what a wonderful experience! I *LOVE* breakfast radio – not on any of the local stations, but I listen online to BBC Radio 1 from back home, and it still cracks me up. Sweet’s even got in listening at home now too, and I’d love to meet any one of the DJs in person!! Wonderful Christmas present, congrats!! :)

I have a morning radio show with 2 DJ’s that I just adore! They just make my morning. It isn’t traditional talk radio because they have a lot of music thrown in there. (Which I prefer.) But I have connected with them through the radio sphere so if I ended up meeting any one of them, I would FREAK!

How fun! You know what’s sad, though? I knew you were at Target before I read the line after the picture. Why? I recognized the pajamas you’re standing in front of. LOL God, I work too much!
