Dear Harry Cat,
Today, you are six. While I wasn’t there to see your feral cat mommy give birth to you, I loved hearing about how you lived in a closet for the first 6 weeks of your life, escaping so often that they called you Harry, after Harry Houdini. I am sure you were the most adorable kitten in the world & I wish I could have been around to hold you when you were just a baby.
I remember the day that I adopted you. I’d gone to the adoption event for the second day in a row, with my heart set on bringing home another cat. But then I saw you, & when your kitty-foster mommy put you in my arms, you snuggled right into my neck & started drooling. The adoption woman said you only drooled when you were happy.
I was smitten.
Harry, you really have been the only constant thing in my life the past six years. Guys & friends & jobs & apartments have changed, but you, with your little pink paws, have been there for me every step of the way. I’ve spent nights with my face buried in your fur while I cry & you’ve made me laugh while you chase bugs or play with your favorite toy, which is basically a feather on a stick.
I know I drive you crazy, what with your billion nicknames, the way I “hold you like a baby” & dance with you…but I don’t care. It’s only because I love you more than anything in the world, ever. Even when you’re bitey or you make it impossible for me to put you in your carrier, you’re still my favorite thing. I love waking up & seeing you snuggled between my feet or having you crawl under the covers & sleep against me like a little spoon.
You’re my favorite, & I love you immensely. I never knew that 10 pounds of fur could bring me such joy.
Happy Birthday, Harrison Roonagle.
Love you always,
Your Mommy

Hey now THAT picture got me all gushy. The one with you hugging him. He may already be 6 years old but still looklike a cute baby to me
Happy birthday Harry!
Aww, I feel the same way about my Ollie-baba. Btw, are we both up late or what??
Oh, he’s adorable. I had a cat who meant the world to me and one day he disappeared. I grieved for him more than I have for real people I’ve lost in the past. A cat seems so superfluous, but no one really knows how much they mean to you until they have one. Happy birthday to your kitty!
i hope he lives a long, long life with you!
p.s. i also wanted to ask you please do this: http://lookingformypearl.blogspot.com/2010/03/pretty-please.html
it makes commenting and answering so much easier! I wanted to reply to your comment about my religion post but i cant! boo!
p.p.s. although i get the feeling i’ve already asked you to do this and you said something about not wanting to publish your email? if thats the case, then just ignore me
i just get really enthusiastic about replying to comments and when i cant, i get disappointed! if that wasn’t you, then ignore this part and go and do it, stat!
p.p.p.s. thanks for the nice comment on the religion post, btw! i was afraid of losing followers and I only have gotten positive feedback so far!
Aww, what a sweet love letter to you kitty! I feel the same way about my little guys – but only one of my cats tolerates being held like a baby. I’d probably end up at the hospital for stitches if I tried it with my little cat. I love the portrait of Harry (wearing a hat?); he looks so avant garde and exudes a hipster “I’m SO not interested” cool.
Furbabies really are a special gift, aren’t they? My dog Jack will be six this summer and it’s crazy to think about it; he’s definitely been the leading man in my life all this time
Simply precious. Happy Birthday, Harry!
Adorable. I feel exactly the same way about my baby girl. I never knew I’d be okay with eating fur at every meal and carrying it with me everywhere I go, no matter how many lint brushes I use. It’s all about love.
Happy B-day Harry!
Aww, how cute he is! I wish I could have a cat. I wanted one for a really long time, but our apartment complex doesn’t allow pets
Boo.
Happy, happy Birthday, Harry!
Happy birthday, Harry Cat!!! He’s so handsome. My kitties turned 5 a couple weeks ago…but it seems like just yesterday I brought them home at 8 weeks old. Pets are one of the most wonderful things about life! Even when they vomit in your shoes.
“Harry” is a superb name for a cat!
My dog, Millie, turns 9 this month! I can’t believe it… I’m thinking of doing a post to mark the event as well.
Gorgeous cat! I love the coloring on him. Happy birthday!!
aww, hooray for kitties! My kitty turned 2 last month… she is still a baby. My mom refers to her as her grandcat. Because, you know. She will likely not ever have an human grandchildren as sprung forth from my uterus. She even sent my cat a birthday card last year. I’m not even kidding.
Where was I going with this? Um. *cough*
Happy Birthday, Harry! Hope you land all the toys and treats you can handle.
Aw, Harry is cute!! I have 2 cats and I definitely adore them. I’m afraid I might be the crazy woman with 50 cats someday!
aw animals make the bestest friends! I miss my two dogs. They were twins so it was so much fun celebrating their birthdays. Happy birthday to your Harry
[...] I’m sure you all remember the light of my life, Harry. [...]
Love! My kitty is six, too, and I often wish I could have been there when he was born (and the years between then and when he was adopted).
