For awhile, I’d been posting my Skinny Titch stuff on a separate site, but then I decided that eh, I was sort of over it because I can barely fit in updating this blog sometimes, so why have a separate one? Plus, y’all are so nice and friendly and supportive of me anyways, so selfishly, I want that burst of encouragement once a week over here.
Anyways, if there’s anything to completely derail a diet and exercise plan for me, it’s lack of schedule. Spring break was a perfect excuse to get off track. You might remember that I kicked it off by spending time in San Fracisco, and at some point during that trip, I did someting truly terrible to my right foot and ankle reigon…meaning that I couldn’t walk well, if at all, really. I know, go ahead and give me the Medal of Bravery because I totally didn’t complain on here. I saved that for my offline friends.
With work starting up again yesterday and my ankle finally not dying after short walks, I decided to be all proactive and get back at it. I went to my gym on Sunday to reserve my spot in spin class, when the girl working behind the desk informed me that SORRY, the gym is closed. Until April 5. For renovations like NEW TV! and NEW UPHOLSTERY!
And also to ruin my life.
Thankfully, the awesome people at Brand About Town and Nintendo recently sent me a new Wii and Wii Fit to use at home. I spent time getting my Wii and my Mii all set up and ready to go, so that my early morning torture workouts can continue on as normal.
My iPhone pic didn't do it justice...thanks, Amazon!
So far, I love the Wii Fit, mostly because I can workout in clothing that is totally ridiculous and NO ONE CAN LAUGH. Though, I do suppose that my Wii would laugh at me if it had eyes, because already, it makes this ridiculous noise when I stand on it. Have you experienced this? You step on the little board, and instead of saying, “You’re light as a feather!” it goes, “OHHH!” like it’s SURPRISED AND HURT.
Though, once I weighed in and did my introductory tests, I realized that I should be saying “OHHH!” too, because holy crap, I’ve got a long way to go. One of the first things you do with the Wii Fit is a test with shifting your body weight. I guess I didn’t do so hot, because it’s all, “Do you find yourself tripping when you’re walking?” And I was all, “Only when I’m drinking…or when I’m uhh, OKAY FINE, YES, I TRIP. YOUR MOM!”
After it analyzes your body composition, the Wii tells you your approximate age. Mine? 41. FORTY ONE. I’m having enough of a hard time with the fact that I’ll be turning twenty-freaking-seven next month, but to be told I’m 41 in Wii years? I nearly died. And also wanted to cry because my Wii Mii is too old to have a baby (babii? Now I feel like I’m sending a bad text!).
Thankfully, the Wii Fit lets you set goals and make plans for yourself along the way, so I can get back to my already-old REAL AGE. I’m looking forward to watching those numbers go down, down, down as I bond with my Wii every morning. I’m incredibly grateful to both Nintendo AND Brand About Town for keeping me on track with my goals.
So, yeah, I took a break, but with BlogHer and my brother’s wedding and also the fact that I’m gonna have a ton of free time to be up in the gym just working on my fitness, I feel motivated and excited and ready to take this working out thing to a whole new level.
What are you using for workouts right now? What keeps you on track? What goals have you set for yourself, fitness-wise?

I used to catch the train to work and sometimes (rarely) walk all the way home (1hr/two hill climbs). Most of the time I was too tired (or would convince myself I was), or would find some other convenient excuse. This year I changed all that by driving half way to work (to a free parking area) and now I walk to and from there, which is a nice 30 or so minutes each way – downhill to work and uphill home, so I save the sweaty stuff for the end of the day. It’s worked out great, most weeks I’ve managed 10/10 trips via walking, and have caught the bus a total of 4 times since January 6th – 3 because of weather and once because I wasn’t feeling so well. Having my car there is ‘incentive’ to walk back to pick it up, and even though the bus is an easy and readily available option, I’ve got so used to walking and don’t like public transport anyway, that my first preference is naturally to walk.
My long term goal, which I’m not actively working for yet, is to be able to run for half an hour or so non-stop, but waiting to lose more lbs before picking that up!
Can we get our Miis to mingle?
I want a Wii Fit so bad!
Have fun with it! All of my fitness work that I did over the winter suddenly completely evaporated out of my life. I’m hoping that when my life calms down a little more I’ll be more able to get on board. For now, I’ll live through Skinny Titch =)
OMG BABII I almost died laughing.
Asher likes to play the penguin game. He’s terrible at it, but we don’t tell him that.
And for what it’s worth, my Wii age was 41 too. EMBARRASSING, isn’t it? I don’t believe the lies that thing tells me.
I’m having a hard time getting back on my Wii Fit – its so mean!!! And it taunts! I love the ski jump . . .
One positive thing is that my now ex-husband got on it when I first got it and it told him that he’s obesse and made his Mii fat – so I do get to laugh at that everytime I hop on it
Lol I totally cracked up at reading your description. I tried out the wii fit once and my wii age was great.. and then the next time it was not so great. And then it told me I needed to GAIN weight. Um no.
But the wii fit was bought for my mom and she loves it. It’s so funny to watch her use it.
Oh Amy, welcome to the world of Wii Fit. Sometimes I will avoid it just because I hate the sounds it makes! But I love when it shows weight loss and I have made those balance measurements at the beginning my personal goal to CONQUER and WIN and be all around awesome. Interestingly, I noticed recently that if I use my Fit right after running I am able to hold my balance and steadiness much better!
I have been running lately… but eating terribly. But I am incredibly focused this week and hope you will have a great week too!
Oh and Wii Babii?
Funniest thing I have read in a long time. Blogger of the day = you.
I was at Target in January to get a Wii Fit for my birthday and in a stunning display of my lack of coordination, slammed to the ground on a perfectly flat and clean part of the shop floor. Then I went home and booted up the Wii and that “do you find your self tripping when you’re walking” message flashed up at me too. It was like a psychic had just done a reading! And I was all like, not usually, but when I go, it’s pretty spectacular.
Yesterday, my husband and I got sucked in to the infomercial madness and ordered the P90X dvd training system to do together. You’re supposed to take nearly naked pics of yourself to do before and after comparisons on a three month program. So yeah, that’ll be fun.
I think the Wii Fit will be great for you! It makes working out convenient and a whole lot of fun! And you have a big goal – to change your age, haha.
I have been so motivated these past 5 weeks, exercising regularly and eating healthy foods. But I don’t have weigh-in on Sunday because of Easter and it’s been so hard staying motivated. It feels like a “free” week and I need to learn to stay motivated just to be healthy, not just for weigh-in!
OHHH, I want a Wii Fit… I tried it at a friends house… so fun. Maybe I will just have to come over and commandeer yours.
I HATE when you step on the board and it says “ohhh”. Way to make my self esteem plummet, especially when I find out later that it says I’m 36. Yes, that’s what happened last night after a few months of not using the thing. But at least I managed to lose a little bit of weight (see 2 lbs).
My fav games on that are the extended hula hooping and the penguin game. Both are fun (the penguin one makes me giggle through it every time) and you definitely feel the burn in the hula hoop game.
Good luck!
The WiiFit at home does the OH! thing to us too. Toopid machine!
I agree with Cass, the hula hoop game is a workout!
(Can’t tell you how many times I’ve threatened my Wii to be nice, it just laughs at me and tells me I’ve gained weight (Even on the weeks I lose!). But it’s fun, their yoga is absolutely killer!)
Ohhh, this post made me smile.
I’ve heard really awesome things about the Wii Fit. Around New Years, a bunch of my friends and I played on her Wii for hours and hours, and we were just PLAYING (tennis, bowling, racketball) and oh my god, we all worked up serious sweats. AND were sore the next day. So, yeah, even though I don’t have one, I think it’s an awesome little invention.
It even has yoga!! (You knew that was coming.)
I think I might be one of the last people on this planet who doesn’t own a Wii. It sure would be nice though to be able to do some workout at home… I rarely find time to go to the gym right now.
I’m currently on the “recovering from too much rich food and too much booze whilst out of town” track. It includes using a calorie tracker on my Eris, getting pissed off that “driving” burns fewer calories than “resting”, and gaming my remaining allowance of fat grams in a day.
As I get closer to the weekend, which will bring on the “OMFG someone is gonna see me naked” phase, I will go for a walk. But only so I can put it in my calorie counter and watch my calorie allowance go up far enough for a bottle of wine.
These Brand About Town people need to hook a southern girl up. What, don’t they know how I run my mouth?
Oooh, Wii Fit! Yeah, the first time I tried it I was also asked if I fall down a lot. But once you do it for just a few times (and get used to figuring out movement and balance on it), your “age” will plummet! Promise.
Good luck with keeping motivated!
This whole post had me DYING laughing. babii? lol
Okay, first of all… what is with Brand About Town and why did they reject me, but choose all my friends to spoil with gifts? Bitter Betty over here… I want a Wii and some Gap jeans, damn it!
Anyway.
That’s so awesome you’re getting back into a regular routine! It’s SO tough to do. The only way I’m able to get a semi-regular work out (2-3x a week) is because my friend Natali is my nazi gym buddy and hunts me down & scolds if I don’t make it to our Zumba class. I wish I had the motivation to get up and work out in the morning like you though, dang. To have it all done and out of the way before you start your day is smart!
You know what makes me accountable, Amy? No, really – do you? Because I don’t. I haven’t used my Wii Fit in so long that I’m afraid to use my Wii Fit because it’s going to be SOOOO MAD AT ME.
If Nintendo makes me cry, I won’t even know what to do.
This is really sad, but I have a Wii Fit and haven’t really used it! Can you recommend some of the workouts for me? The problem is that I have such a solid workout routine at the gym, I don’t make time for the Wii. Don’t be mad at me! Help me! We can motivate each other like we do for cleaning
I am really interested to see how the wii fit works out for you… does it actually feel like a work out? I’ve been thinking about getting one but if it’s not actually going to do anything than I probably won’t.
This sure is a boring comment. Sorry. I’m half asleep.
Ugh, so jealous. Brand About Town hates me. I applied & they don’t want me, either because I’m not influential or because I wrote a blog post sort of complaining about how many bloggers are all like “FREE STUFF, I HAVE NO COMPLAINTS ABOUT THESE PRODUCTS BECAUSE I LOVE SWAG.” But hey, I want some free stuff. I WILL REVIEW HONESTLY. Or nottttt.
Anyway, I’ve been working out in the gym IN MY BUILDING, because it’s HERE & why NOT? I’m scared of working out around others, but so far it’s going really well.
I was intrigued by the Total Gym infommercial one day when I was bored, and it arrives Monday!!! Impulse buy!!! I hope it delivers all it promises.
WANT.
