Well, hello there.
I am back. I spent my break back in Springfield, Illinois (but, uh, didn’t tell you guys because I am PARANOID) visiting Andrew’s family. I’ve written about visiting Illinois before (this was my fourth visit) and I love it every time. There really is something special about a Midwest summer, with it’s sticky heat and cloudy days, the hum of the cicadas and the breeze. This time, I suffered from the most ridiculous allergies ever, but thankfully, the ridiculous sneeze attacks didn’t stop the trip from being magical.
I spent time on Lake Springfield (Andrew’s family home sits mere steps from the lake) just looking at the water and on a boat. There were afternoon naps and games and plenty of time to read. I had some great conversations and wrote in my journal and did a lot of thinking. I’ve felt so overwhelmed lately that it’s been a long time since I’ve been able to just sit with my thoughts and get some perspective.
The things I learned will undoubtedly be spilling out here over the next few weeks, as there is quite a bit of good stuff on the horizon for me, but just for today, I wanted to pop in, to say hello and thank you for the sweet comments about my break.
Now it’s your turn: what’s the best thing that happened to you in the past week? I’m all ears.

Oh, that just sounds like a wonderful getaway! Looking forward to all the stories that you have to tell
Welcome back!
Well, it’s been a rough few days, BUT… The absolute best moment of the past week for me was getting home from a hellacious overnight trip that had upset me very much, to find Billy standing on the porch, with our dogs next to him, waiting to hug me. It was exactly what I needed, and I was so grateful.
I’d never heard cicadas before I moved out here… and they kind of give me the creeps.
Welcome back!
I’m glad to hear Illinois opened its summer arms for you. =) The best thing that happened to me over the past week is my niece was born. Swoon.
Be sure to take some pictures! The best thing that happened to me this week is I get to have Friday off so YAY for a 4-day weekend!
Hi Amy, as a matter of fact I spent my weekend doing some contemplation as well, unfortunatley mine just left me with even more questions… I suppose all will be revealed in time.
Best thing that happened last week: baby slept all night for 3 nights in a row. He’s quit since then, but I’ll take it when I can get it!
I’d be lying if I said I didn’t miss you. Sounds like a lovely weekend break.
Welcome home! It sounds amazing, can’t wait to hear what you ruminated on when you were away.
Best thing of the past week: #1 – Bloggy meet up!! #2 – Seeing Jesse again when i got to the airport
My boyfriend (!!!) made a surprise landing in Florida, as his Coast Guard boat changed their plans. So he surprise-called me on Monday! I was thrilled.
YAY! You’re back! Glad you had a nice break and a lovely trip.
The best thing that happened to me this week was that I wrote something that wasn’t for work or the blog! It doesn’t sound like a big deal, but it was. And it’s the third time I’ve done it in a month! So, extra big deal!!!
Getting to catch up with you over super yummy custard was a wonderful bright spot in what had been a stressful week. So glad we found time to get together and that you enjoyed your trip!
I’ve never spent much time in the Midwest, but it sounds amazing. I’m going to Chicago on Friday which I’ve heard isn’t very Midwest-y, but at least it’s close!
I got back together with a boy I truly love, and although I’m scared it won’t work out again, I’m willing to give it another try. I truly believe he’s changed and I’m SO happy!!!
Welcome back love! We’ve missed you
There is something wonderful about midwest summers and just spending time on a lake.
The best thing about my weekend? Hanging out with Kyla, Nora, and Lisa in Minnesota for a long weekend. It was incredibly fabulous.
My past week was insanely hectic. But I did manage to squeeze in a quick trip to visit the bf for his bday and have a lovely, romantic dinner with him. It was most definitely the highlight of my week.
Sounds like you had a really nice getaway! I must admit–I’m super jealous of your relaxation and time for reflection.
Welcome home! Sounds like a great, and much needed, get away.
I know this is a little late, but the best thing about my past week was seeing you
