Best of ’09: Best Album

I wish I had something cool and indie and hipster to share with you, but my best album?  Taylor Swift, Fearless.  It has everything I love in an album: love songs, hate songs, catchy ballads and even a really sweet tribute to her mom that never fails to make me tear up.  I love that there is such a self-aware 19-year-old in the world, one who is so lovely and mature.  And I love, love, love singing my heart out to her in the car, whenever I need a lift.

Call me crazy, but that’s hands down, my best album of ’09.

  • You know what, I totally love this album, but I think it is a teensy bit insane that she is winning every award known to mankind. Yes, I like her, and I like her music, but homegirl uses the same four chords in 90% of her songs! And THOSE are the songs that everyone likes! The other 10%, people are like “meh”, when in fact those are the ones that are truly creative and whatnot. It’s ridiculous from a music theory perspective. On the other hand, she does take those four same chords and churn out several songs that sound different to most people, so that’s pretty cool, I guess? Anyway. I agree. Good album.

  • I don’t know the entire album, but given the number of hits she’s enjoyed off of it, I just assume it’s fabulous. It’s taken a long time for Taylor to grow on me, but after her SNL skit, she won me over. Good call on this one, my friend.

  • I think Taylor Swift is a doll and it is miraculous because she’s so young! Why isn’t every young pop star as darling?

  • I love Fearless too. It’s probably not my favorite of the year, but it’s up there and it was definitely the biggest surprise to me, because it’s so unlike the music I usually listen to.
