Thankful, part 3

Late this afternoon, Andrew and I decided to head to Borders to hang out.  He really loves reading magazines and drinking coffee in the cafe area and I felt like getting out of the house, so we got our Starbucks and settled in.  I was checking out a few different books and Andrew was engrossed in a magazine when I felt someone looking at me.

A young, blonde girl walking

On fire drills, HUMILIATION, and finding me elsewhere…

So, I wrote about one of the most embarrassing things I’ve ever experienced.  But, I didn’t write it here.  You’ll have to head over to Ashley’s blog, “Our Little Apartment” to experience it.  You should be heading over there on a regular basis as it is, because she is the cutest girl, and her blog is adorable!  I just love her.

Today, I’m heading out to a crafty fair with

Thankful: Saturday edition

Today, I thought I’d list things I’m thankful for today:

Waking up after sleeping for nearly TWELVE HOURS and feeling quite good about it—I needed sleep, obviously. Rooting around the kitchen for pancake ingredients ’til Andrew came in and said he’d take me out to breakfast instead!  Hooray! Delicious pumpkin pancakes and lots of giggles with the boyfriend over breakfast. Getting a prescription filled (my poor teeth are still troubling

Five years…

Five years ago this weekend, I adopted Harrison Roo, my angel of a kitty. The photo above was taken a few weeks after I got him, and I think it really sums up our relationship: I absolutely adore him.

Yes, I realize that blogging about how delighted I am to have adopted this little baby definitely labels me a crazy cat lady, but I don’t care. Harry brings me

Thankful…

I’ve noticed that as Thanksgiving approaches, I’m seeing more and more posts involving gratitude. I love this. I love the idea of being grateful, and while I try and maintain an attitude of gratitude all year long, I have to confess that I’m often bogged down in the little things—the things that detract from me realizing every single day how lucky I am. Because I am.

As Thanksgiving approaches,

I’m all over the place!

A bit of shameless self-promotion for your Thursday…

I am over at the adorable Doniree’s blog today talking about risk-taking and decision making…check me out here!  I’m pretty thrilled to be featured among some amazing writers AND to be seen on Doni’s site! Also, I posted over at Style Lush about how to make one of my favorite accessories of all time: my Scrabble Tile necklace.  Style Lush has been

Crazy eyes killah…

One of the benefits of being a teacher is that nearly every day, I have a chance to remember something RIDICULOUS that happened to me while I was attending school.  Now that I am older, and supposedly wiser, I can look back and laugh at things that seemed positively devastating at the time I was experiencing them.

A universal truth of school is that there’s always people who aren’t cool.

Jobs I Couldn’t Do

One of the first reactions I hear when people learn that I’m a middle school teacher is somewhere along the lines of, “Oh my goodness, you’re a saint!  How do you do it?” and other kind words.  In my opinion, my job is NOTHING compared to some awful jobs others hold.  I’ve seen this post on a few other blogs recently, so I thought I’d list some jobs I could

Rest in peace, friend.

I lost a good friend yesterday:

Yes, that is my coffee pot.  And no, that isn’t my house, it’s my classroom floor.

One thing you learn quickly as a teacher is just how much TIME you’ll be spending in your classroom.  I typically arrive at work anywhere from an hour to two hours BEFORE the first bell even rings.  Several days a week, I am there long past the

On James…

My first full-time job after college was working at an art center for developmentally disabled adults.  These adults were people who had disabilities ranging from seizure disorder to mental retardation to autism.  It was my first time teaching, and I got to teach everything from life skills like budgeting and hygiene to creative writing to a senior class with the older clients, where we’d play Bingo and go to the
