World Suicide Prevention Day

Today is World Suicide Prevention Day. As someone who struggles with chronic depression, and has attempted suicide in the past, this is a big deal to me, and a cause that is near and dear to my heart.

Many of those who know me are surprised when they find out that I’ve struggled with depression for years. The first time I wrote that I was depressed in a journal, I

The thing is…

The thing is that once your life has fallen apart once, you know you can put it back together. In fact, you know exactly what to do. I like the unshakable confidence that no matter what, I know what’s inside of myself, and I know I will be okay. Sadly, this doesn’t make the process even easier.

Sometimes—okay, all the time—I wish that there was someone who could make decisions

My Style Statement: Following Up

So, with everything going on, I got away from finishing up how Style Statement is affecting my life. I want to share one of the most fun, powerful tools I’ve used so far in conjunction with it: the inspiration book.

This is a combination of something I’ve seen many artsy-craftsy friends do, and the popular idea of creating vision boards. Although I’d eventually like to make a big one

Happy, happy

Today happens to be a very special day for 3 of the most important people in my life.

My Grandma Carol celebrates her birthday today. Yes, she is critically ill in the hospital, but she is here and making small improvements day by day. She is much more alert, is breathing on her own and her plasma is slowly but surely getting better. Grandma has a long way to go,

Fat um, Wednesday {or, I know it's not Tuesday, but the important thing is that I'm still fat}

I’m happy to report that I’ve been working out a lot since re-joining 24 Hour Fitness. I’m actually finding myself enjoying it—I like the variety of classes and options I’ve got there, and the fact that I can workout BEFORE work. Yes, it’s early and that sucks, but…I am too tired to out and out hate cardio if I am barely awake for it, right?

The other big thing that

Editorially Speaking

I’ve never received a hateful comment on my blog, but I realize I am opening the doors WIDE OPEN today.

As a teacher, I find it impossible to stay silent today, on the day of Obama’s speech about education. I try and keep things light around here, but today? Today, I need to speak my mind.

Today, President Obama will go before the nation’s children to deliver a message about

Beer and worrying in Sacramento…

As I posted before, I have hated beer for as long as I’ve been drinking (which, for the record wasn’t until I was 21!  NO JOKES.  I used to be am a very, very good girl!).  While I’ve tried it a few times, I have yet to really, really enjoy it, but I want to!  So, I’ve made a project out of it and am desperately trying to learn to

Things I'm Pondering…

I am totally aware that my blog has been overtaken by bullet points lately.  If you don’t like it, you can suck it.  Seriously.  I promise that this week will include less bullet points, but until then?  Please enjoy my shorter, more random ramblings.  Or don’t.

First, and most importantly: PLEASE keep praying for Grandma Carol.  Yesterday, her plasma started looking better, and she opened her eyes.  She is

I Always Come Crawling Back…

Dear 24-Hour Fitness,

I sort of hate you.  See, I always pay for you, but I don’t always go…and then I just get irritated on the 5th of every month when I get a withdrawl from you.  I try and quit you.  Every time.

But, every time I think I can subsist with my apartment’s crummy gym that is only open for limited hours, doesn’t have spin classes or yoga

I Won!

So, I’ve never won any sort of blog award. Until yesterday! The awesome Amber tagged me in a little exercise, where you share 10 things about yourself and list 10 blogs you read and love to do the same.

Here goes! I’ll start with 10 things about myself that you may not know yet:

I am rather musically inclined and played the piano and clarinet for years, and sang in
