May 19th, 2009 Well, I’m down seven pounds in two weeks, which is not a whole lot in light of the 50+ I need to lose, but since I’m participating in Operation Muffin Top(ple) with my fellow fatties, and so many of you have been ultra supportive and on the same journey, I thought I’d share the Top 7 Things I’ve Learned While Losing 7 Pounds… 1) The old adage is true: “if May 18th, 2009 So, Andrew celebrated his birthday yesterday and one of the gifts I purchased for him was a nose hair trimmer. It was obviously something he wanted, because hello? Who buys that for someone else without them wanting it? Believe me, he used that thing within 5 minutes of opening it so I’ll call it a success. Andrew told me he wanted one, and when my baby wants something, he gets May 17th, 2009 “When we find someone whose weirdness is compatible with ours, we join up with them and fall into mutually satisfying weirdness, and call it love – true love.” — Robert Fulghum In honor of Andrew’s 26th birthday, I thought I’d post a list of reasons why I’m so glad I get to share my life with him. 1) You make me laugh, every single day, more than once, May 15th, 2009 So, not sure what it is, but I’ve been in a ridiculously good mood the past few days. Maybe it’s knowing that summer break is literally RIGHT around the corner, maybe it’s the fact that I’m losing weight, maybe all of that crap doctors have told us is true and working out every day really DOES make you feel better. Whatever the reason, I’ll take it. Since it’s time for May 14th, 2009 This is why I love teaching middle school. The drama: “We’re getting sooooo oldddd!” a girl exclaimed as she adjusted her ribbons. “Miss E! We’re all turning 14! Our lives are nearly over!” “I know! Our teenage years are NEARLY FINISHED!” a friend chimed in. I laughed and laughed and laughed. “If you think 14 is old, do you think I’m practically dead?” I asked them. “No, but, um…” they May 13th, 2009 I have a bit of a vomit phobia. Okay, I have a freaking HUGE vomit phobia. I haven’t puked in 12 years. In fact, I celebrate my Vomit Anniversary every year on Veteran’s Day. Sure, it’s weird. And believe me: I’ve done my share of drinking and still never gotten sick. My highly patented, secret system involves copious amounts of mint, Diet Coke, a bath/shower and a few other tricks May 12th, 2009 There are some things in life that literally, for the life of me, I cannot understand the appeal of. I just don’t get it. Why, why, WHY do people like these things? Anime. What the hell, people? It’s a cartoon. It’s an annoying cartoon. The storylines are lame, they talk funny and make weird noises. Teaching middle school, I have a lot of students who freaking love it. They May 11th, 2009 A few months ago, an old friend joined Facebook. I was so delighted to see her on there! We’d been friends for years, she’d helped me when I was first starting out as a massage therapist (prior to being a teacher) and she and her partner had seen me through some of my darkest days. I added her with glee and sent a personal message along, telling her how eager May 11th, 2009 Since I read a lot, I’m hoping to do more of these book review style posts (in fact, I’ll have another coming up soon since I finishing Geek Love for Prose Hos, too), particularly over the summer when I can read things intended for people older than 14 and not in a huge brown Teacher Edition textbook. When my book club selected Loving Frank, by Nancy Horan, for our book May 10th, 2009 Me, my mom and brother at Apple Hill… Not only is this weekend Mother’s Day, it’s was my Mom’s birthday yesterday, too! So I get to celebrate her twice. And she is definitely someone who deserves to be celebrated as much as possible. When I first started teaching, a student was asking me where something was while clearly doing everything but LOOKING WHERE I’D TOLD HIM TO LOOK. As |
