Things they don't teach you in credentialing…

Last night was Open House at school, which is always interesting. To steal from my friend Leslie, I am allergic to small talk. And while yes, I am an adult, talking to other adults, especially adults whose children I teach, makes me incredibly nervous. I am a young teacher, and sometimes, I still feel like someone is going to come into my classroom and tell me to stop playing school,

Songs I Never Get Tired Of…

1. Love, Love, Love — Tristan Prettyman (always makes me smile)

2. The World’s Greatest — Bonnie “Prince” Billy (always makes me cry)

3. Float On — Modest Mouse (cheers me up and puts life in perspective)

4. Take Me Out — Franz Ferdinand (makes me wanna go out!)

5. Everything’s Just Wonderful — Lily Allen (great mix of lyrical fun and a good beat)

6. Simple Life — The

The first time…

Wasn’t it cute how I posted about running the other day? And was all funny and sarcastic about how much I hate it? Guess what wasn’t cute?

I didn’t actually run. Nope. Not even a little bit.

That is until yesterday. I finally strapped on my shoes and hit the treadmill. I really, really wanted to run outdoors, but am currently being ravaged by the disgusting air here in the

Bathroom adventures

I’ve never been a big fan of public restrooms. I mean, is anyone? Does anyone really say, “Hey, here I am at Target! You know what I want to do? USE THE BATHROOM! YAYAYAYAYAYAYAY!” I get it, OK? No one loves it. I, however, am a bit of a special case. My oldest and dearest friends will totally attest to the fact that when I used the restroom for quite

Grateful.

The internet has been a place chock full of sadness lately. The kind of sadness that seems so, so freaking wrong, for lack of a better phrase. I am a complete and total stranger to both Shana, who lost her son Thalon and the Spohrs, who lost Maddie; however, their stories are profoundly heartbreaking. Top it off with someone I do know, a tragic story of a man with two

On running…

I have a confession to make, Internet. You know that fat girl in middle school who complained she had asthma or cramps or rolled her ankle or felt nauseous or whatever else she could string together to avoid running?

That was me.

I hate running. I feel like the most disgusting human on the earth when I do it. It’s not pretty. I sweat, first of all, which is something

Right now…

Right this second, I am…

…Really thrilled to be feeling better. Yesterday was rough. Headache + nausea + 35 kids watching you try and suck fresh air in order not to puke = Worst. Friday. Ever.

…Feeling refreshed after a long coffee date with Jody, one of my best friends, and a fellow teacher who always reminds me why I’m passionate about what I do.

…Loving the song “World’s Greatest”,

Fat and happy?

Yes, I realize that these photos seem to have NOTHING to do with my previous post on the subject, but let me tell you friends, it does.

These LOVELY photos, captured by my cell phone, show you what I currently have on my plate: finishing my credential portfolio, grading 49 essays for our district writing assessment, 103 essays for my own students and 103 reading summaries.

Ah,

Date Night!

Andrew and I are not big fancy dinner people. For the most part, we cook together at our apartment, occasionally grabbing a quick dinner somewhere casual. But, as a promotion for renting our apartment, we received a gift card and decided to go out for a truly fancy, expensive dinner as a fun treat. Obviously, since this is a special occasion, the diet went out the door for a night.

Eat me, dragon!

I have recently been working on what has turned out to be a totally soul-sucking project: the portfolio that will allow me to complete my single–subject credential. I’ve been in my credential program for nearly two years, and it truly is the bane of my existence. On April 28, I will deliver a 30 minute presentation proving that yes, I DO know what I’m doing in the classroom.

Or at
