March 31st, 2009 A few years ago, when I was working at Borders, I had the chance to meet Anne Lamott, who is one of my very favorite authors of all time. When she came to speak at my store, I was delighted. My manager knew from the fact that I CRIED when I heard she was coming that it would literally make a dream come true if I could meet her.
When

March 29th, 2009 I received an email from a very sweet friend recently, inviting me to a wine dinner for the winery her husband works for. I love her and wine so it seemed like a fun thing to do. Until I checked the date: April 21st.
My birthday.
I had to write her back and decline politely because I’m not sure if I’ll be enjoying a family dinner or time with Andrew

March 27th, 2009 Um, let’s actually start with what I did NOT do:
—wear makeup —wear clothes that were not made of velour, cotton or other sweatpants-ish material, save for the times I left the house to see friends —watch anything that made me smarter —talk to anyone under the age of 21
All in all, my break was pretty fabulous. For those of you who are new to me, I teach 8th

March 26th, 2009 In order to start kindergarten, I have to take a screening test. As we walk into my brand new school, I read the signs, pronouncing “OFFICE” as “OFF-ICE.” I hold my parents hands and we enter a small room. A nice lady has me read, count and put together a puzzle. As I put together a puzzle of barnyard animals, I feel an odd hard thing on my tongue. I

March 23rd, 2009 My old roommate was really obsessed with YouTube videos and she showed me this one. I think it’s extraordinarily beautiful, maybe because I love San Francisco and the idea is so happy.
Enjoy!

By the way, the song is “Heartbeats” by Jose Gonzalez. I downloaded it immediately and the rest of his album is excellent, also.
March 22nd, 2009 Dear TLC,
I feel like we know one another really well now, you know, since I’ve spent the last three days of my life half-sleeping on the couch with your shows in the background. And let me say, well done! The episodes of “What Not To Wear” proved both interesting and informative and I am so grateful for that. I will never, ever wear camo cargo shorts or a pair

March 21st, 2009 Andrew magically procured a copy of Benjamin Button, and since I was feeling crappy last night, we curled up on the couch and watched it. If you don’t like spoilers or movies that weren’t necessarily obtained legally, than stop reading NOW.

Me: “I’m really, really glad we aren’t paying for this.”
Andrew: “Oh, we are…”
Me: *looks confused*
Andrew: “WITH OUR TIME.”

March 20th, 2009 Harrison Roo
This is Harry. He also goes by Harrison Roo, Moo, Mister Face and about a billion other names I won’t list here.
While I recognize that this post will totally brand me a crazy cat lady, I’d just like to remind all of you that I am NOT a spinster. I live with my boyfriend. And while yes, I do also collect teapots, I have a wide

March 19th, 2009 When I lived alone, I decided that I could totally live without television. I did it, I guess…so noble in my little studio apartment, with my books and my art supplies and yoga mat. Even when I lived with a roommate, we opted against TV since we were both so busy and rarely home.
This is not the case, now. Not even close.
When Andrew and I started dating, I

March 18th, 2009 Part of my ongoing series of timelines. Preschool part one is here.
Two weeks after my brother is born, we move away. Away from my best friend and my school and my yellow room. We get rid of Ike, our big white dog. My parents cry, but I’m not sad because he’s so big and pushed me down once. My biggest concern is that my silver, blue and red swing
